Kay Kizer's journey began with a deep understanding of what it feels like not to belong. As a child, she experienced abandonment and rejection, never knowing the warmth of a stable home or the embrace of loving parents. This profound sense of isolation planted a seed in her heart a
desire to ensure that no child would ever feel the way she did.
Despite these early challenges, Kay's life took a transformative turn. Her experiences fueled a passion for advocacy and a calling to serve others, especially children in the foster care system. Recognizing the indignity of children carrying their belongings in trash bags, Kay founded "Kay's Carry On" with a simple yet powerful mission: to replace these trash bags with rolling luggage,
giving foster children a sense of dignity and belonging.
Kay's commitment to this cause is unwavering. She believes that every child deserves to feel valued and loved, and that something as small as a suitcase can provide a child with a renewed sense of hope and normalcy during a turbulent time. Through her work, she aims to raise
awareness, inspire change, and bring comfort to foster children.
Today, Kay's Carry On continues to grow, touching the lives of countless children and reminding them that they are not alone. Kay's vision is to expand this mission, reaching more children and
creating a supportive community where they can thrive.

As a child, I never experienced belonging by having a close or intimate relationship with adults. It is a MUST that children need to experience this so they will not be searching for life-long relationships. Children should never have to ask themselves, " why don't I belong?" I did not belong to my birth mother except for those 9 months that I was developing and growing in her womb. Even then she did not want me. I was only attached to her physically but I was abandoned in the womb. What?
How can that be?
Belonging begin in our minds. I didn’t belong to an expectant mother. Mentally she had disconnected herself from me so the sense of me belonging to her Her older sisters spoke into her eargates (persuasion) to give me to the foster care system. I did not belong to this growing out of control system either. I didn’t belong to the foster families that I lived with temporarily. WOW!!!
All I wanted was to belong…that I was valuable and previous to someone. Is this too much or am I asking for too much??? What is the cost of belonging? No amount of money will cause someone to belong. My sons and grandchildren always knew what it felt like to belong. It had to do with the fact that I wanted them. They are valuable and precious to me. I made sure they received hugs, words of affirmation, smiles, "just because" cards and "I love you"letters.
The gift of Belonging catapults me into stepping into the things of God. It causes me to feel powerful, happy, joyful and of great importance. I feel as if I can do all things and according to the scriptures " I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me!
